Insider Tips
We've been hosting guests at Mile Away for a while now, and these are the things we always wish we'd told people sooner. Consider this the insider knowledge that doesn't make it onto any travel blog.
- The Mountain Road (Route 108) is the main artery — everything you need is along or just off this road.
- Groceries: Shaw's in Morrisville is the most affordable, Stowe Mercantile in the village is great for specialty items.
- Parking in the village can fill up on peak weekends. Arrive early or use the satellite lots on the edge of town.
- Cell service can be spotty near the summit trails. Download offline maps before heading up.
- Stowe's restaurant scene punches well above its weight for a small Vermont town. Reservations are recommended at the top spots, especially during ski season and fall foliage.
- The Stowe Free Library offers free day passes to local residents and guests — a lovely rainy day option.
- If you see the sky clear after a snowstorm, get out immediately. The views are unbeatable in fresh snow.
